Getting the layout right before we ever mix mortar
We check the wall for plumb and flat first - a bow of even an eighth inch over four feet will telegraph through finished tile. Backer board goes up if needed before any tile is set.
Showers get a complete waterproofing membrane behind the tile, niches are framed and waterproofed before any tile goes up, and every outlet cutout is trimmed to sit clean behind the cover plate.
