Hardwood Stair Installation Around Tyler
Nobody notices a staircase until it creaks, wobbles, or clashes with the rest of the house. Best Budget Flooring & Remodeling builds and installs hardwood stairs across Tyler and the surrounding East Texas community communities, and we have walked through enough East Texas homes to know that stairs take more daily punishment than almost any other surface in the house.
One crew handles the whole job: pulling up old carpet or worn treads, checking the stringers for squeaks, custom-milling nosings when the manufacturer doesn't offer a matching one, and sealing the finished stairs with a low-VOC topcoat. You get a single point of contact from the first measurement to the final coat, backed by our 1-year installation warranty and the reviews from neighbors who've had us in their own homes.

Solid Wood or Engineered Treads - What Actually Fits Your Home
Solid oak, maple, and hickory treads remain the standard for a reason - they can be sanded and refinished several times over, so a well-built solid staircase can easily outlast the house around it.
Engineered treads earn their place too, especially in homes on slab foundations, which describes a good share of the properties we work on around Flint. They handle humidity swings better than some solid species, and if you're already running engineered hardwood through the rest of the house, matching the stairs to it is a straightforward pairing.
- Red oak, white oak, maple, hickory, and walnut available through special order
- Open-end, boxed, curved, and winding stair layouts
- In-house nosing fabrication when a matching manufacturer piece isn't available

Learn moreHow the Job Actually Goes
We break most staircases into three days. Day one is demolition and prep - pulling old carpet, treads, or tile, clearing debris, and shimming any stringer that's gone soft or loose. Day two is install: treads, risers, and nosings set with construction adhesive and finish nails, with no fasteners visible from the top. Day three is finish work - stain if you've chosen one, a few coats of polyurethane, and a walk-through before we call it done.

Making the Stairs Match the Rest of the House
Most people don't want their staircase to look like a separate project bolted onto the house - they want it to disappear into the floor above and below it. We pull from the same stain batch used on your hardwood flooring or a recent hardwood refinishing job and match the sheen so the transition reads as one continuous floor. If you want real contrast instead, dark treads against painted white risers is a request we hear often.

Hardwood Stairs - frequently asked questions
Almost always. We strip out the carpet, pad, staples, and tack strip, then check what's underneath. Solid treads in good shape get built on directly; particleboard or damaged treads get swapped for new ones as part of the same job.
A typical 14-stair job runs 2 to 3 days start to finish - demo, then install, then finish. You'll be walking on the stairs again the next morning, with a full 7-day cure before rugs or floor mats go down.
That's what we aim for. We work from the same species and stain used on your floors and match the sheen so the stairs read as part of the same floor.
