We start by pulling the old carpet, pad, staples, and tack strip, then inspect the wood underneath - loose treads get re-screwed so the staircase is solid before anything new goes down. From there we lay fresh 8-pound rebond pad, proper fastening on every tread and riser, and stretch the carpet tight with a knee kicker and power stretcher. Every seam is heat-bonded, so there's nothing fraying at the nosing a year or two down the road.
