Porcelain gets fired at a higher temperature from a denser clay body than standard ceramic, which is why it ends up under half a percent porous - practically waterproof - and harder than standard ceramic tile. Porcelain doesn't forgive an uneven subfloor - large-format and plank shapes will show even an eighth-inch dip once they're set. We check the floor before we start and use leveling clips on every install.
